Bridge Meadows, formerly known as Portland Hope Meadows, has the mission of developing and sustaining intergenerational neighborhoods for adoptive families of foster children that promote permanency, community and caring relationships, while offering safety and meaningful purpose in the daily lives of older adults.
–Bridge Meadows broke ground in June of 2010 in Portland Oregon
We are hope
To step into the shoes of a child living in foster care more often than not means living with uncertainty every day. Children of all ages and ethnic backgrounds, separated from their biological parents, pass through the revolving door of our foster care system at an alarming rate. The primary intent is to reunite children with their families, but at times, that dream falls short, leaving the child at risk and not knowing about her future. The path can become dim leaving the child without direction; without stability; without a family.
We are permanent
Providing at-risk children loving, permanent homes does much to restore their sense of stability and hope. Bridge Meadows community seeks to give these children access to the tools and resources they will need to become successful, productive adults. The intentional, unconventional design of the intergenerational neighborhood brings into play a naturally occurring paradigm that bonds each generation.
For the first time in their young lives, children will know the true meaning of stability, constancy and permanence. Older adults, serving as volunteers, living within the community, quickly discover how vital their presence is in the lives of these children and vice versa.
We are family
The commitment of families who will become part of the Bridge Meadows community is huge. The obligation is lifelong and collaborative. Each generation will bring inspiration, dedication and caring to the process. Here, the family begins its journey toward healing the wounds of abandoned childhoods and nurturing the hope of a bright future.
